The best beaches around Hammamet

Fine sand, clear water and sunsets: our short guide to Hammamet’s beaches, from the medina to Yasmine.

Hammamet owes its reputation to the long ribbon of fine sand lining the gulf that shares its name. From the villa, the sea is only minutes away. Here are our favourite beaches, whatever your mood.

Les Orangers and Hammamet North

Four minutes by car (or just under twenty on foot), the area around Hotel Les Orangers offers public beaches lined with restaurants. Perfect for a morning swim before the sun gets too strong, followed by a seafood lunch with your feet in the sand.

The medina beach

At the foot of the ramparts, the town beach is the liveliest: families, fishermen, vendors selling doughnuts and jasmine. Come at the end of the day, when the kasbah is silhouetted against an orange sky.

Yasmine Hammamet

Thirteen minutes to the south, Yasmine Hammamet offers a wide modern beach, a promenade and its lively marina. You will find water sports, seafront restaurants and leisure parks for children. The ancient site of Pupput, with its Roman mosaics, is close by.

When to swim?

  • June and July: long days and already pleasant water.
  • August and September: the sea is at its warmest, perfect for long swims.
  • October: a mild, quiet late season, often still warm enough to swim.

And when the sea is a little rough, the villa’s infinity pool awaits, private and unoverlooked, under the Hammamet sun.

Our tips

  • Go early in the morning or after 4 pm to avoid the strongest heat.
  • Bring a parasol and water: some public beaches have few facilities.
  • Respect the swimming flags, as currents can be strong on some days.
